Why can’t I let go of someone? – The spiritual significance of deep connections

Readingtime: 4 min

Sometimes we meet someone who stays in our hearts forever. Even after months or years, the connection remains palpable. Why is that? Is it love, a soulmate, or is there something else behind it? In this article, you’ll discover the psychological and spiritual reasons behind such connections and how you can regain clarity.

Why some people won’t let us go

There are encounters that change our lives.

Although we try to move on, our thoughts keep returning to that one person. Perhaps you’ve long since gone your separate ways. Perhaps there was never a relationship. Perhaps you only knew each other for a short time.

And yet the feeling remains.

Many people ask themselves:

"Why can't I just forget this person?"

I hear this question very often during my counselling sessions. The answer is rarely straightforward, because not every deep connection automatically means that this person will stay by our side forever.

That is precisely why it is worth taking a closer look.

When the heart and the mind go their separate ways

The mind often says:

"I really ought to let go."

But the heart feels differently.

This inner conflict takes a lot of energy. Some people try to distract themselves, start new relationships or suppress their feelings.

But often, those thoughts keep coming back.

That doesn’t automatically mean you’re weak.

Rather, it shows that this encounter has touched something within you that lies deeper than the ordinary routine of everyday life.

The psychological perspective

From a psychological perspective, particularly intense bonds often develop when an encounter triggers old feelings or relationship patterns.

Perhaps this person subconsciously reminds you of something familiar.

Perhaps old wounds will resurface.

Perhaps you’ll find yourself longing to finally experience the kind of love you’ve been yearning for for so long.

Such processes usually take place unconsciously.

That is why they often feel more intense than we can explain.

The spiritual perspective

In my spiritual work, I repeatedly come across connections that cannot be explained by psychological models alone.

Some people experience a deep inner certainty.

They feel a sense of connection, even though they have hardly any contact.

Others report vivid dreams, synchronicities or the feeling of connecting with the other person on a deeper level.

Experiences like these can have different meanings.

Sometimes it is a soulmate relationship.

Sometimes it’s about a karmic connection.

Sometimes this encounter is meant, above all, to teach us something about ourselves.

Soulmate or karmic relationship?

Many people use the two terms interchangeably.

But that isn’t always true.

A karmic connection can be very intense.

It often brings unresolved issues to the surface and challenges us.

A soulmate, on the other hand, often supports our personal development, even if the journey we take together is not always easy.

Not every intense relationship is automatically a soulmate relationship.

That is why it is worth taking a careful look at the situation as a whole.

When it becomes important to let go

Sometimes we don’t hold on to someone.

But on a hope.

At a performance.

A future that we would like to see.

In such cases, the question might be:

Is it really about this person – or about the feeling I associate with them?

This realisation can be the first step towards inner freedom.

What can a psychic reading reveal?

Many people long for certainty.

You’d like to know:

  • Is this person my soulmate?

  • Do we have a future together?

  • Why have I met them right now?

  • What purpose lies behind this connection?

  • What is this encounter trying to show me?

Media coverage is no substitute for making your own decisions.

However, it can help you to recognise connections more clearly, regain confidence in your own intuition and see your own path in life more clearly.

It is precisely the combination of psychological insight and media perception that often opens up new perspectives.
